29 November 2004 -- An official of Kazakhstan's ruling Otan (Fatherland) party says Otan leaders do not believe yesterday's blasts at the party's headquarters in Almaty were linked to political rivalry.
Kazakh television today quoted Otan party Deputy Chairman Amangeldi Ermegiyaev, speaking at a press conference in Almaty, as also saying the party leadership hopes to see the incident investigated at a ministerial level.
Earlier, General Moldiar Orazaliev, chief of Almaty City Department of Interior Affairs, said it appears that those who organized the blasts did not plan to kill anyone.
The two blasts at the Otan party headquarters yesterday injured one passerby.
Kazakh police previously said "hooliganism" was likely behind the blasts.
