4 December 2004 -- Apparent twin suicide car bombs blew up outside a police station in the center of the Iraqi capital Baghdad today, killing at least three people and injuring more than 40.
The police station that was targeted is located near Baghdad's heavily fortified "green zone," which houses the Iraqi interim government and several foreign embassies.
It was the second major attack in two days targeting Iraqi police in the capital.
A U.S. Embassy spokesman said the explosion caused no casualties among troops within the U.S.-led coalition.
However Iraqiya television reported that one U.S. soldier was killed.
On 3 December, armed attackers mortared and then raided a police station near Baghdad airport. The attackers killed at least 11 policemen and set free some 50 detainees held at the police jail.
