19 December 2004 -- Iraqi Interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi says security forces have captured rockets smuggled into the country by rebels planning to attack polling stations during the run-up to the 30 January general elections.
Allawi did not specify the type of missiles involved. He said they had come from a "nearby" country, which he did not name.
He said his government has contacted the country concerned and is "waiting for an explanation."
Allawi also said that government ministries are preparing a security plan to prevent attacks during the electoral campaign.
