3 January 2005 -- Turkmenistan and Ukraine have signed a new one-year contract for the supply of Turkmen gas to Ukraine.
ITAR-TASS quotes Turkmen President Saparmurat Niyazov as saying he signed the deal with Yuriy Boiko, the head of Naftogaz, Ukraine's main oil and gas company, today in the capital Ashgabat.
ITAR-TASS quotes Niyazov as saying Turkmenistan will now supply gas to Ukraine for the price of 58 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters.
Niyazov was also quoted as saying Turkmenistan is negotiating with the Russian oil firm Gazprom on gas deliveries to Russia at the same price as today's deal with Ukraine.
Turkmenistan was previously selling gas to both Ukraine and Russia at 44 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters.
Turkmenistan cut off its gas deliveries to Russia and Ukraine on 1 January after a disagreement over prices.
