23 January 2005 -- Afghan officials say four people, including a local police chief, have been killed by a roadside bomb blast in southern Afghanistan.
Interior Ministry spokesman Lutfullah Mashal said Wazir Mohammad, police chief of Char Chino district of Uruzgan Province, was killed with his father, his brother, and his bodyguard as he was driving from his home to his office yesterday.
Rebels of the ousted Islamic fundamentalist Taliban regime claimed responsibility for the bombing.
A U.S.-led invasion toppled the Taliban in 2001 after they refused to hand over Al-Qaeda head Osama bin Laden.
