3 February 2004 -- The Islamic political group Hizb ut-Tahrir has denied any involvement in the 31 January car bomb blast in Tajikistan's capital Dushanbe.
The group released a statement saying it does not engage in terrorism, violence, or any form of armed struggle.
The statement says the group is concerned that Tajik authorities could use the car blast as an excuse to persecute its members.
Hizb ut-Tahrir seeks to establish an Islamic caliphate in Central Asia. It is banned in several Central Asian countries and Russia.
Hundreds of Hizb ut-Tahrir members and supporters have been arrested and imprisoned for alleged extremist activities in Central Asia.
