Gunmen Kill Iraqi Journalist, Kidnap Official

9 February 2005 -- Gunmen in Iraq have killed a correspondent of Alhurra, a U.S.-funded Arabic-language television station.
Officials said Abd al-Husayn Khazaal and his 10-year-old son were shot to death in their house in the southern city of Al-Basrah today.

In other violence, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said gunmen abducted a senior official employed by its operations department. Police said Colonel Riyadh Katay Allawi was dragged from his car in southern Baghdad today.

Insurgents have kidnapped or killed dozens of leading Iraqi officials over the past year, along with more than 160 foreigners.
