24 February 2005 -- Heavy security measures are being implemented in Slovakia for today's summit between U.S. President George W. Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Bratislava.
The airspace over Bratislava is due to be closed for the duration of the summit, and Slovak MiG jet fighters are reported standing by to protect the skies.
Restrictions are also being imposed on truck traffic into the capital and shipping on the Danube River.
Some 6,000 Slovak police, soldiers, and emergency personnel are reportedly involved in the security operation, in addition to Russian and American security personnel.
Road blockades and checkpoints have also been set up around the summit zone to guard against potential terrorist attacks or disturbances by demonstrators.
