Almaty, 8 April 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Interior ministers and senior security officials from Eurasia, the Transcaucasus, and Eastern Europe are continuing a meeting in Kazakhstan to discuss curbing illegal cross-border migration.
Representatives are attending the gathering from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
The discussions, which started yesterday, are being held near Kazakhstan's commercial capital Almaty.
The meeting is focused on tightening joint measures to curb illegal migration and human-trafficking operations that affect the eight countries represented at the meeting.
The talks are timed to coincide with increased illegal migration of workers as well as human trafficking operations, which tend to flourish in Central Asia and neighboring regions in the spring.
