One Dead In Attacks On Police In Daghestan

13 April 2005 -- One policeman has died and several have been wounded in two bomb attacks in Dagestan, which borders Russia's restive breakaway republic of Chechnya.
Police said a bomb exploded shortly after midnight as a police patrol was travelling on a road linking the capital Makhachkala to the airport. The fatality was reported in this attack. Two other officers were seriously wounded.

Less than an hour later, another explosive device went off on another road in Makhachkala near a group of police. An unspecified number of police were slightly wounded in this blast.

Daghestan has been the scene of many bombings, shootouts, and fights over the past few months with several police and Daghestani officials killed.
