Miners Killed In Eastern Ukraine

Ukrainian coal miners (file photo) 18 April 2005 -- Five miners were trapped by a rock slide underground in an eastern Ukrainian mine. Two were killed, two were rescued, and one is still missing.
The Ukrainian Emergencies Situations Ministry said the accident occurred at the Rossiya coal mine in Donetsk region yesterday.

Rescue workers are still on the scene.

Ukrainian mines are considered to be among the world's most dangerous. The AP reported that since 1991, nearly 4,300 miners have been killed in Ukrainian coal mines.
