Voting today in Iran
24 June 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Iran's Interior Ministry has extended voting by two hours in the country's presidential runoff election, Radio Farda reported.
Polls are now due to close at 9 p.m. (1630 GMT/UTC).
Earlier today, the Interior Ministry said it had received reports of voting irregularities in today's presidential runoff election.
Interior Ministry spokesman Jahanbakhsh Khanjani told reporters in Tehran there were several reports of people trying to interefere with voting at polling booths. He said the violations, especially in the capital Tehran, "have gone beyond what could be considered a small level."
However, the hard-line Guardians Council dismissed the allegations.
Voters in today's runoff election are choosing between conservative Ayatollah Ali-Akbar Hashemi-Rafsanjani, a former president, and Mahmud Ahmadinejad, the hard-line mayor of Tehran.
