U.S. Soldier Killed By Roadside Bombing Near Samarra

25 July 2005 -- The U.S. military command in Iraq says a U.S. soldier was killed today when a roadside bomb exploded under his vehicle near Samarra, north of Baghdad.
The victim, whose name was not released, was assigned to the U.S. Army's Task Force Liberty which is responsible for security in a large area of the Sunni Triangle, the main center of insurgency.

The latest death brings to at least 1,777 the number of U.S. military personnel who have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an AP count.
