30 July 2005 -- Iran demanded today that the European Union submit its proposals on solving the dispute over Tehran's nuclear program by 1 August and rejected any talk of a delay.
A spokesman for the Supreme National Security Council said ambassadors from Britain, Germany, and France -- the EU trio negotiating with Iran on its nuclear program -- had asked that a 1 August deadline for their proposals be extended to 7 August.
The EU trio plans to offer Tehran a package of incentives to encourage the country to respect its nuclear commitments.
But Iranian nuclear negotiators said today in Tehran that they are demanding that the EU submit its proposals by the original deadline.
Iran's newly elected president, hard-liner and former Tehran Mayor Mahmud Ahmadinejad, takes office on 3 August.
