Georgia, U.S. Hold Joint Naval Military Exercise

2 August 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Georgian and U.S. naval forces today began a joint military exercise off the Black Sea port of Poti.
The war game involves the "USS Nashville" amphibious transport dock and three Georgian warships.

This is the first time the Georgian and U.S. navies are holding a joint exercise.

The United States is Georgia's main defense partner. U.S. military instructors have been training Georgian service personnel in antiterrorism tactics since 2002.
