Iranian Minister Refutes Claims Of Weapons Smuggling To Iraq

10 August 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Iraqi Interior Minister Bayan Jabr said today that reports of roadside bombs being smuggled into Iraq from Iran are exaggerated.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said on 9 August that some insurgent weapons were entering Iraq from Iran, though Rumsfeld did not specify whether this was happening with or without the Iranian government's knowledge.

Jabr said that there was an incident along the Iraq-Iran border when Iraqi security forces fired on a group of men carrying boxes near the border. The men dropped the boxes and fled inside Iran.

Jabr said that was all that happened along the border and any further information about that incident was exaggerated.
