Three Russian Soldiers, Three Policemen Killed In Chechnya

Russian soldiers in Chechnya (file photo) 10 August 2005 -- Three Russian soldiers and three police officers have reportedly been killed in the latest fighting in Chechnya.
An official from Chechnya's Moscow-backed government said today that Russian army checkpoints and bases came under fire 14 times in 24 hours, resulting in the deaths of two Russian soldiers.

The official, who requested anonymity, said another Russian soldier was killed in a mine explosion in the Achkhoi-Martan region southwest of Grozny, the capital.

One Russian policeman was killed by an explosive device in the mountainous region of Vedeno in southern Chechnya late yesterday. The mutilated corpse of a Chechen policeman was found today in northeastern Chechnya, while a Chechen militiaman working for the Russian Interior Ministry was killed in an attack in Grozny.
