19 August 2005 -- A U.S. military investigation has concluded that a suicide bomber from an Iraqi insurgent group was responsible for the December 2004 bombing on a U.S. base near the city of Mosul.
The bomber, wearing an Iraqi security forces uniform, blew himself up inside a crowded dining tent, killing 22 people.
U.S. Major General David Rodriguez said today that the investigation determined the bomber was associated with the Islamic militant group Ansar Al-Sunnah Army. He said the investigation was not able to find out whether the bomber had been a member of the Iraqi security forces or had merely stolen the uniform.
