Russia Criticizes U.S. Over Biological Weapons Report

31 August 2005 -- Russia today criticized a U.S. report that suggests Moscow maintains an offensive biological weapons program.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in an statement that Russia is dedicated to the strict adherence to the Biological
and Toxin Weapons Convention.

The statement came one day after the release of a U.S. State Department report that says Russia "continues to
maintain" an offensive biological weapons program, in violation of the convention.

The U.S. report also accuses Iran, North Korea, and Syria of maintaining biological-weapons programs.

The U.S. State Department says the cases addressed in the report were limited to countries for which the most evidence exists of actual or potential noncompliance with the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention.
