Syrian-Iraqi Border Reopens

23 September 2005 -- The Syrian-Iraq border reopened today after being closed for 12 days during military operations in western Iraq.
Syrian border officials said that some 400 Iraqis who were stranded on the border for those 12 days set out for home today. Nearly 200 trucks crossed into Iraq today.

Syrian border officials said there were still some 1,000 refrigerated trucks waiting to pass through Iraqi and U.S. military inspections before being allowed into Iraq.
