27 October 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Turkmenistan is today opening two days of celebrations to mark the 14th anniversary of the country's independence from the Soviet Union.
A military parade is due to take place in Ashgabat's main square, while other celebratory events will include concerts and exhibitions.
Further celebrations are planned for 28 October.
