Iranian City Confiscating Mannequins

(RFE/RL) 1 November 2005 -- Police in a northeast Iranian city have begun confiscating mannequins from shops and clothes stalls in the local bazaar.

Authorities in Bojnourd said the action was part of a new morality drive to tackle problems of "public chastity," and other anti-social behavior, like vandalism.

Bojnourd is located near the shrine city of Mashhad, a focal point of pilgrimage for the world's Shi'ite Muslims.
