7 November 2005 -- Thousands of communists and their allies marched today in Kiyv to commemorate the 1917 Bolshevik revolution.
Reports quoted police as saying some 10,000 people took part in the march.
Demonstrators rallying outside the government building in the capital carried banners saying, among others, "The real revolution is ahead" and "Long Live Lenin."
Reports said the mostly retirement-age demonstrators also demanded that the government curb prices of food and other commodities and stop the sale of strategic enterprises.
They also demanded the reinstatement of the 7 November holiday, which during the Soviet era was celebrated as the anniversary of the 1917 Bolshevik revolution.
A smaller demonstration of some 1,000 communist supporters gathered in a main square in the Black Sea port city of Odessa.
