6 January 2006 – British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw arrived on a surprise visit to Iraq on 6 January.
Straw is meeting with the governor of the southern city of Al-Basrah and other local officials to discuss efforts to form a coalition government following parliamentary elections held on 15 December.
