Azerbaijani Journalists Demonstrate Over Huseynov Probe

Elmar Huseynov's killing remains unsolved one year later (Turan) 12 January 2006 -- Dozens of Azerbaijani journalists demonstrated in Baku today to demand that the government report on progress made in the investigation into the murder of opposition reporter Elmar Huseynov.
Participants also called upon President Ilham Aliyev to meet with representatives of the media ahead of the first anniversary of Huseynov's death.

Huseynov, editor-in-chief of the "Monitor" news magazine, was slain in Baku on 2 March 2005.

Relatives and rights groups blame the government for the killing. President Aliyev has called the journalist's assassination "a provocation against the state."

Officials say Huseynov was shot dead by two Georgian Azeris who fled the country after the killing. In Georgia, authorities say the suspects are not in the country.
