Russia To Join Food And Agriculture Organization

(RFE/RL) 27 January 2006 -- Russia's lower house of parliament, the State Duma, today approved a measure on joining a UN body that coordinates the world's agricultural policies.
The UN's Food and Agriculture Organization, the FAO, also tries to deal with hunger around the globe.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Yakovenko says Moscow hopes that joining the FAO will enable it to better coordinate agricultural matters with other former Soviet countries.
