Bosnian Wins At Berlin Film Festival

A scene from "The Rpad To Guantanamo" (Courtesy Photo) 19 February 2006 (RFE/RL) -- The Bosnian film "Grbavica," directed by Sarajevo-born filmmaker Jasmila Zbanic, has won a Golden Bear at the 56th Berlin Film Festival.

The film, which won the award on 18 February, tells the plight of women raped by Serbian soldiers during the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina.


This year’s Silver Bear prize went to “En Soap” ("A Soap") of by Danish director Pernille Fischer Christensen and “Offside,” a soccer comedy directed by Jafar Panahi of Iran.


Britain's Michael Winterbottom and Mat Whitecross, authors of the documentary "The Road to Guantanamo," won a Silver Bear for best direction.


The film tells the true story of three British Muslims who were held at the U.S. prison camp in Cuba for more than two years before being released without charge.


Silver Bears for best actress and best actor went to Sandra Hueller and Moritz Bleibtreu, respectively.
