Tens Of Thousands Bid Milosevic Farewell

Milosevic supporters in Belgrade today (epa) March 18, 2006 -- Tens of thousands of people gathered in central Belgrade today to bid farewell to former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic.

Authorities say some 40,000 people attended a ceremony outside parliament, ahead of his funeral. Milosevich will be buried later today in his home town of Pozarevac, southeast of the capital.

Milosevic died of a heart attack in his cell at the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague on March 11. He had been standing trial on charges of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity during the Balkans wars in the early 1990s.
