Kazakhstan Jails Two Russians, Tajik For Trafficking

(RFE/RL) March 28, 2006 -- A court in Kazakhstan's commercial capital Almaty has sentenced two Russians and one Tajik to 10 years in jail for trafficking drugs and weapons.

Police arrested the three after finding explosives and heroin in a flat in Almaty.


Russia's Federal Security Service had informed Kazakh authorities that one of the Russians had commanded a group of mercenaries operating in Chechnya.
