Dozens Injured In Kurdish Riot In Turkey

(RFE/RL) March 28, 2006 -- Thousands of Kurdish protesters rioted today in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir after funerals for Kurdish guerrillas killed by Turkish troops.
The protesters hurled firebombs at armored police vehicles and smashed windows at a police station. Hospital officials said 40 people were injured, including two police officers who were stabbed.

The violence broke out after the funerals for four Kurdish guerrillas killed by Turkish troops this past week. The guerrillas are mainly based in northern Iraq and southeastern Turkey.
