Russian Duma Ratifies Alliance With Uzbekistan

April 21, 2006 -- The State Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament, today ratified an alliance treaty with Uzbekistan.

The treaty, which was signed in Moscow last November by the presidents of both countries, says Moscow and Tashkent should help each other when faced with military threats.


It also envisages cooperation in the spheres of diplomacy, the economy, education, and culture.
