UN Kosovo Mediator Urges Serbs To End Boycott

Martti Ahtisaari, the UN's senior negotiator in talks over the final status of Kosovo (file photo) (epa) June 10, 2006 -- The top United Nations mediator for Kosovo has appealed to the province's Serbian minority to end its boycott of government institutions.

Martti Ahtisaari said on a visit to Prishtina that this was the best way to achieve a multiethnic society in the disputed province.

Ahtisaari was speaking after meeting a team sent by the province to take part in talks with Serbia on Kosovo's future.

Ethnic Albanians are seeking independence from Serbia, a possibility that Serbs reject.
