At Least 28 Killed In Iraqi Violence

(file photo) (AFP) June 17, 2006 -- A string of bombings and mortar attacks has killed at least 28 people in Iraq today, most of them in Baghdad.
The violence comes despite a security crackdown in the capital by Iraqi and U.S. troops for the fourth straight day.


In the deadliest incident, a suicide bomber killed 11 people, including Iraqi army soldiers, at an army and police checkpoint in the capital.


Others were killed by bombing and mortar attacks on two markets in Baghdad.


On June 16, 11 people were killed in in a Shi'ite mosque in the capital.
