Ukraine Opposition Leader Agrees To Talks

Opposition leader Yanukovich (right) meeting with President Yushchenko following the elections in March (epa) July 3, 2006 -- Ukrainian politicians say that talks aimed at resuming activity in Ukraine's parliament could begin on July 4.

Viktor Yanukovych, the head of the pro-Russian Party of Regions said today he spoke with President Viktor Yushchenko and agreed to hold discussions in a smaller group.

Earlier today, Ukraine's governing coalition and the opposition failed to start a roundtable discussion because Yanukovych had not showed up.

The Party of Regions began blocking the parliament last week as the new coalition planned a vote on naming former Prime Minister Yuliya Tymoshenko as prime minister again.
