Nearly 6,000 Iraqi Civilians Killed In May, June

Oil Ministry workers mourn colleagues killed in an attack in June (ITAR-TASS) July 18, 2006 -- A UN report says nearly 6,000 civilians were killed in Iraq in May and June.

The report by the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, which was released today, said most of the victims were killed in Baghdad.


The UN document said that the Iraqi Health Ministry had acknowledged that at least 50,000 people have been killed since 2003 and some 150,000 people displaced from their homes because of the violence.
