Tajikistan Bans Imports Of Fake Georgian Water

The real thing (Courtesy Photo) July 28, 2006 -- Tajikistan say it has banned imports of a nominally Georgian mineral water that is in fact produced in Kazakhstan.

The Avesta news agency quotes Anvar Sharipov, the head of the government agency in charge of protecting consumers' rights, as saying the fake Borjomi brand water does not meet the necessary sanitary requirements.

Sharipov also said the ban does not affect Borjomi imports from Georgia.
