Iranian Student Activist Dies In Prison

(RFE/RL) July 31, 2006 -- The Iranian student news agency ISNA reports today that student activist Akbar Mohammadi has died in a Tehran prison.

The 36-year-old Mohammadi is believed to have died on July 30. He was on the fifth day of a hunger strike. Coroners are determining the cause of death.


Mohammadi was arrested during a student protest in 1999 and has been in jail since.
