August 31, 2006 -- A Dutch fighter jet crashed in Afghanistan today, killing the pilot.
A NATO statement said the plane crashed after making a distress call, but did not report "enemy action."
The pilot, the only person on board, was found dead at the crash site. The location of the crash was withheld for security reasons.
Earlier today, two insurgents were killed in intense fighting in the town of Naw Zad, in the southern province of Helmand.
