EU Widens Travel Bans On Belarusian Officials

Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka (file photo) (ITAR-TASS) October 23, 2006 -- The EU today added four more officials to a list of 31 banned from entering the European Union because of their involvement in a crackdown on democracy.

The four are judges and prosecutors involved in the trial of jailed Belarusian opposition activist Alyaksandr Kazulin and four other activists.

The EU's 25 governments agreed the ban for 31 top Belarusian officials, including President Alyaksander Lukashenka, in April.
