Iran Summons British Envoy Over Sailors

UK Ambassador to Iran Geoffrey Adams (file photo) (Fars) March 25, 2007 -- Iranian media say the Foreign Ministry today summoned British Ambassador to Iran Geoffrey Adams to protest the "illegal entry" of British sailors into Iranian waters.

Meanwhile, Britain's Foreign Office said Iran denied requests for access to the 15 British sailors who were seized by Iranian naval forces in the Persian Gulf on March 23.

London says the sailors were conducting a legitimate antismuggling patrol when they were seized.

Britain and the European Union have demanded Iran release the sailors at once.
