Tajik Ministry Withdraws Lawsuit Against Opposition

(RFE/RL) DUSHANBE, April 24, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- Tajikistan's Justice Ministry today withdrew its lawsuit against the opposition Social Democratic Party, RFE/RL's Tajik service reports.

The ministry had asked Tajikistan's Supreme Court to ban the party's activities for six months because of accusations that it has "undermined laws and regulations."

The Social Democratic Party has long been critical of President Emomali Rahmon's administration. It was among several parties that boycotted the presidential election last November.
