One Killed, Five Wounded In Kabul Rocket Attack

(RFE/RL) KABUL, May 7, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- A rocket attack this morning in the Afghan capital, Kabul, killed one man and wounded five people, including a small boy, RFE/RL's Radio Free Afghanistan reported.

A spokesman for the Interior Ministry said the missile struck near a building complex in Kabul's east. It is not known who may have been behind the attack.

"A rocket slammed into the Banayee of the Pol-e Pacha area of Kabul, killing one person and injuring five others," Kabul senior police officer Ali Shan Paktiawal said today. "This incident took place in an area where children and young people were playing and working."

Meanwhile, a man in an Afghan Army uniform shot dead two U.S. soldiers at the high-security Pol-e Charkhi prison on the eastern outskirts of Kabul.

U.S. coalition forces said the purported soldier shot at vehicles leaving the Afghan prison on May 6.

Two other U.S. service personnel were wounded in the incident. The gunman was killed by other Afghan soldiers at the prison.
