Escaped War Criminal May Have Fled Bosnia

RAdovan Stankovic on trial at The Hague in 2002 (epa) May 29, 2007 -- Radovan Stankovic, a convicted Bosnian Serb war criminal who escaped from prison last week, may have fled to Montenegro.

The president of Bosnia's top court, Meddzida Kreso, made the remarks today at a news briefing.

Stankovic holds citizenship of Montenegro, whose border is only 10 kilometers from the Bosnian Serb town of Foca where Stankovic had been jailed for raping and enslaving Muslim women during Bosnia's war in the 1990s.

Montenegro's constitution forbids the extradition of its citizens to other countries.
