Turkey Prepares For Parliamentary Elections

Turkey's continuing conflict with Kurdish separatist rebels is a hot campaign issue (file photo) (AFP) July 21, 2007 -- Turkey's election campaign was in its final hours today as voters prepared to go to the polls in the country's July 22 parliamentary elections.

The new parliament will be immediately faced with several issues, including a presidential election and a continuing conflict with Kurdish separatist rebels, some based in neighboring Iraq.


Ankara has been debating an incursion into northern Iraq to wipe out Kurdish guerrillas based there.
