Prague, 14 October 1997 (RFE/RL) - Czech President Vaclav Havel and his Hungarian counterpart, Arpad Goencz, called for closer cooperation among their countries and Poland, the three countries which were invited to join NATO at its Madrid summit last July.
He says NATO and the European Union are "a kind of teamwork," adding the three nations would have to harmonize their armies and weapons purchases.
Goencz, who is on an official visit to the Czech Republic, also held talks today with Czech Prime Minister Vaclav Klaus.
Goencz says the goal of his visit is to stress Hungary's willingness to cooperate with countries with the same future. He told reporters that coordinating interests and approaches in coming closer to NATO could save plenty of money and also eliminate the danger of possible failures.
