Moldova Liquidates Soviet-Era Pesticides

Chemical specialists collect and package dangerous pesticides in the village of Dceni.

Some 6000 tons of pesticides from the Soviet era remain in Moldova. The current liquidation project, supported by NATO, will eliminate a quarter of that amount.

Moldova does not have the technology to safely dispose of its Soviet-era chemical stocks. The pesticides will be transported through Ukraine to Poland for incineration.

A guard of honor with NATO flags marks the start of the initiative.
