Detained Migrants Await Deportation In Moscow

This tent camp in Moscow's Golyanovo district houses migrants awaiting deportation from Russia.

Hundreds of detainees originally from Vietnam, the MIddle East, Central Asia, and elsewhere are staying in some 20 army tents.

Authorities say each tent can accommodate 40-50 people.

The detainees are under round-the-clock surveillance as they await deportation.

The camp is located among industrial buildings in Golyanovo district.

Some visitors try to reach loved ones detained at the camp to exchange messages or belongings...

...but they are not allowed inside.

Abdel, an Egyptian, is homeless. He came to the camp voluntarily when he heard that free food was available.

Migrant workers are not only the residents of the tent city; they also helped to build it. Here, workers arrive to set up facilities at the camp.
