Suicide Car Bomb Kills Three In Chechnya

Three police officers have been killed and four injured by a suicide car bombing in Chechnya.

The press service of Chechnya's police force says the bombing occurred before dawn on September 16 at a police station in the town of Sernovodsk, about 50 kilometers west of Chechnya's capital, Grozny.

It said the car was attempting to enter an area belonging to the Sunzhen district interior-affairs office but exploded after police tried to erect a barrier.

Separatist rebels fought two wars with Russian troops in Chechnya over the past 20 years.

Although the insurgency has been largely suppressed, sporadic attacks persist.
