Afghanistan Hosts International Music Festival

KABUL -- Afghanistan's first-ever international music festival kicked off in Kabul on September 24, bringing together musicians from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India and ending with an educational seminar.

The four-day event is being organized by the Khyal Cultural Foundation, an institute that promotes cultural values that are shared by regional neighbors, and is sponsored by the French Cultural Foundation and the Goethe Institute in Kabul.

The director of the French Culture Center told RFE/RL's Radio Free Afghanistan that the event is meant to strengthen cultural ties between the neighboring countries.

Prominent Afghan folk singers will perform alongside singers and dancers from India and Pakistan.
