Anger In Hong Kong Over Hostages Deaths In Manila

Rescuers carry away the dead body of one of the hostages after the hostage-taker had been killed by snipers.

The government of Hong Kong has warned its residents against traveling to the Philippines after eight tourists from Hong Kong were killed in a bus hijacking incident in the Philippine capital Manila on August 23.

China has said it was "appalled" by the deaths and criticized the way the crisis was handled. Philippines President Benigno Aquino has promised a full investigation.

After a daylong siege of the bus, police snipers killed the hostage-taker, but only after eight Hong Kong tourists had been shot and killed and seven others injured.

The hostage-taker was a former police officer who was reportedly angry about his dismissal from the force for alleged criminal wrongdoing.
